Everyone is talking about AI - but is there a benefit in the field of visual arts? Which AI strategies can be transferred, which image generators are recommendable? What ethical and legal aspects need to be considered? Does it make sense to adapt your working methods and if so, why?
Maria Kirchhof – in search of the higher self
Born in 1981, the artist has been exploring the question of the ideal self-image for years: before herself, in society and before God. She deals with this controversial issue in egg tempera paintings, but also increasingly in pictorial worlds created using artificial intelligence. These pictorial worlds are always based on her own paintings and carefully sketched dreams.
Maria Kirchhof lives and works in seclusion in the Westerwald - a workshop is planned for 2025.
The number of image generation programs is constantly growing.
The web platform KREA.AI was used for the following example. This program allows a creative mix of your own uploadable images and images specified by KREA. There are five different modes and a refinement tool. Elements can also be added graphically, allowing additional content and its positioning. Never in the exact sense and always on the basis of your own, meaningful prompt. The painting shown on the left was executed by Maria Kirchhof in egg tempera and is owned by Axel Schöber. The exploitation rights are held by both the artist and ART-isotope - Galerie Schöber. The amount of human intervention required to produce the respective AI end results must be documented in detail if a claim to authorship of the new works is to be made.
